Our Story

Where the Recipe Began

The boudin recipe at DezMeaux’s started with the owner’s grandparents, who ran a supermarket in Ville Platte. The recipe — more than 50 years old — was a local favorite long before the restaurant existed. After they passed, the tradition nearly faded until the family decided to keep it alive.

With the time and resources to continue the legacy, the owner began selling boudin out of the back of a truck in his hometown. Word spread quickly, and demand grew, eventually leading to the storefront in Opelousas. What began as a small effort to preserve a family recipe became a full kitchen serving the community every day.

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name “DezMeaux’s” combines both sides of the family. “Dez” comes from the mother’s maiden name, Desertel, known locally from the family supermarket. “Meaux” comes from the father’s surname, Mose, spelled in the Cajun Creole style to match the local pronunciation. Together, the name honors family roots and the culture that shaped the food.
